Powerful Change – Abbey’s Story

Abbeys Story

Increasing independence one brush stroke at a time.

Abbey loves expressing herself through her artwork- something she does regularly through The Farmer’s House Community Integration Program. Abbey first developed her love of art at Parkhill High School. After graduating, she was thrilled to join The Farmer’s House where she could continue to hone her art skills at our new Margaret Nerman Art Studio located within our mARTKet in Westwood, Kansas.

Abbey’s paintings can best be described as gentle with a touch of whimsey. When asked where she gets her inspiration from, Abbey shared “I think of something I really love and just draw it, putting my emotions on the canvas. Creating makes me feel relaxed and happy.” Abbey is quite independent when she paints, says Farmer’s House Art Coordinator Mary Bunker. She has mastered the task of knowing how far to take her paintings before being too much.”

In addition to expressing herself through art, Abbey enjoys socializing with her friends. She also loves exploring the community with her fellow Farmers. What’s next on Abbey’s list? She wants to further her independence in other areas of her life by making more of her own choices and by trying new things – goals The Farmer’s House is happy to help her achieve!
